Religion Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin A Christian street preacher was arrested and locked in a cell for telling a passer-by that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God. The year-old Baptist, who has preached Christianity in Workington, Cumbria for years, said he did not mention homosexuality while delivering a sermon from the top of a stepladder, but admitted telling a passing shopper that he believed it went against the word of God. Police officers are alleging that he made the remark in a voice loud enough to be overheard by others and have charged him with using abusive or insulting language, contrary to the Public Order Act. Mr McAlpine, who was taken to the police station in the back of a marked van and locked in a cell for seven hours on April 20, said the incident was among the worst experiences of his life. Sam Webster, a solicitor-advocate for the Christian Institute, which is supporting Mr McAlpine, said it is not a crime to express the belief that homosexual conduct is a sin. During the exchange, he says he quietly listed homosexuality among a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians, including blasphemy, fornication, adultery and drunkenness. After the woman walked away, she was approached by a PCSO who spoke with her briefly and then walked over to Mr McAlpine and told him a complaint had been made, and that he could be arrested for using racist or homophobic language. The street preacher said he told the PCSO: Three regular uniformed police officers arrived during the address, arrested Mr McAlpine and put him in the back of a police van. At the station, he was told to empty his pockets and his mobile telephone, belt and shoes were confiscated.

Sex By the Bible Most texts in the Bible that speak about sex are laconic. However, the story of Jacob seems to imply that the ancients, or at least Jacob, preferred total darkness and complete silence, at least on the part of the woman: Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? Clearly the Bible treats a variety of other subjects with equal brevity.
The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC; Russian: Ру́сская правосла́вная це́рковь, tr. Subscribe To Our Podcast: It is important to note up front that the denominations on the chart below represent what some refer to as the “visible” church which is defined by ecclesiology of tradition, architecture, culture, sight, sound, experience etc. The true church is comprised of those who have actually cried out to God for the forgiveness of their sins Acts 2: There are seven major families of denominations which comprise the Biblical Historical Christian faith: I have represented these families in the chart below.
Oriental Orthodox – Not to be confused with the Eastern Orthodox denominations – the Oriental Orthodox churches broke off in the earliest of schisms in Church history.
Logically disproving the Christian God
Regardless of the truth and the facts, their dogmatic position is that if God permitted the Bible to have been altered, then the present day church could not be genuine. They maintain that the Christian Church as it stands is the Church of Christ — and that if God was to allow the scriptures to be corrupted, that God’s people would not know what to believe. And when it was pointed out that many of the favorite passages which the Church used as a foundation for their dogma does not exist in the vast majority of Greek manuscripts and texts which is the actual source of the New Testament scriptures, it was then stated that God personally wrote the King James Version of the Bible — which, they believe has been personally authored by God separate and apart from the Greek manuscripts and texts, is seen by many as infallible.
In accord with their blind-faith reasoning, they promote the dogmatic presumption that the Christian Church must be maintained in order for man to be saved, and they reason that God would protect and not allow the written word of the scriptures to be corrupted. And since it is clear that both the Greek and Latin texts were corrupted, they promote the dogma that the King James Version is separate and apart from all other texts and translations — being the actual work of God.

What is the nature of a relationship with God? What Scripture invites us into is communion with God. I have offered a new reflection here as well as appended two articles on the topic from my previous writings. They seem quite on topic. God has offered so much to us — it is a pity if we allow language to lessen the magnificence of that gift. Someone will have read an article on the blog and posted the question: However well-meant such postings may be, they are ill-informed. That conflation is of very recent vintage, a Biblical interpretation dating back to the origins of the Evangelical Movement a few hundred years back.
That is to say — it is a novel idea — not an item of Christian revelation. There is nothing within the actual text of Scripture that requires such an interpretation.

The modern use of the term “Coptic” describes Egyptian Christians, as well as the last stage of the ancient Egyptian language script. Also, it describes the distinctive art and architecture that developed as an early expression of the new faith. The Coptic Church is based on the teachings of Saint Mark who brought Christianity to Egypt during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero in the first century, a dozen of years after the Lord’s ascension.
This is the root organization from which all of the denominations, listed below, had emerged. The earliest Christian church was established by Jesus Christ and richly developed by His disciples and especially the Apostle Paul’s missionary journeys.
The article affirms that the issue lies with the large number of mixed marriages that take place in the Greek American community. Kehayes goes as far as saying that the Greek Orthodox Church in America will be nearly extinct, unless the church acts quickly. The Constitution guarantees their freedom. Changes have occurred in the cultural make up of Greek Americans since young men first arrived in America in the late 19th century to escape the chaos of their homelands and seek their fortunes.
Over the next years they came, limited only by quotas and war. Among them were the dispossessed, joining millions of immigrants from Europe looking for a new start. Those who came liked what they found and the vast majority remained to build a new life. They continued to come through most of the 20th century. The first Greek Orthodox Church was founded in New Orleans, almost years ago, but in the main, communities began to appear in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in an era encompassing the largest immigrations.

The three-barred cross of the Russian Orthodox Church The Kievan period[ edit ] The Christian community that developed into what is now known as the Russian Orthodox Church is traditionally said to have been founded by the Apostle Andrew , who is thought to have visited Scythia and Greek colonies along the northern coast of the Black Sea. According to one of the legends, Andrew reached the future location of Kiev and foretold the foundation of a great Christian city.
By the end of the first millennium AD, eastern Slavic lands started to come under the cultural influence of the Eastern Roman Empire. There is evidence that the first Christian bishop was sent to Novgorod from Constantinople either by Patriarch Photius or Patriarch Ignatios , c. By the mid th century, there was already a Christian community among Kievan nobility, under the leadership of Byzantine Greek priests, although paganism remained the dominant religion.

Definition of an Eastern Church An accident of political development has made it possible to divide the Christian world , in the first place, into two great halves, Eastern and Western. The root of this division is, roughly and broadly speaking, the division of the Roman Empire made first by Diocletian , and again by the sons of Theodosius I Arcadius in the East, ; and Honorius in the West, , then finally made permanent by the establishment of a rival empire in the West Charlemagne , The division of Eastern and Western Churches , then, in its origin corresponds to that of the empire.
Western Churches are those that either gravitate around Rome or broke away from her at the Reformation. Eastern Churches depend originally on the Eastern Empire at Constantinople; they are those that either find their centre in the patriarchate of that city since the centralization of the fourth century or have been formed by schisms which in the first instance concerned Constantinople rather than the Western world.
Another distinction, that can be applied only in the most general and broadest sense, is that of language. Western Christendom till the Reformation was Latin; even now the Protestant bodies still bear unmistakably the mark of their Latin ancestry. It was the great Latin Fathers and Schoolmen , St. In a still broader sense the East may be called Greek.
