Electrical Sensors that can affect automatic transmission operation. Sensors deliver information to the powertrain control module and transmission control module The Powertrain Control Module controls engine and transmission function by way of a programmatically adaptive microprocessor. It is responsible for all shift timing and shift feel characteristics.
If the PCM fails were malfunctions, the transmission may stop shifting, have firm or soft shifts, or cause complete transmission failure. Most vehicles have several electronic control modules.

If America wants a bold, innovative car, they’ll buy a Toyota. If they want something honest, inexpensive and comfortable, they’ll buy a Ford. If they want an honest car with added spizzarkle, they’ll spend a little more for a Mercury. Well, that’s how it used to be, until Ford started building sub-par Japanese wanna-be’s. Thankfully, the Blue Oval offers at least one rear-wheel drive automobile that stays true to the company’s roots: Park the Grand Marquis next to its foreign counterparts and it’s clear that the American luxobarge ain’t livin’ large no mo’.
Snout-to-tail comparisons with a Camry require measurements smaller than a foot; millimeters differentiate their relative heights. Fortunately, the Marquis’ ping-pong table hood and aircraft-carrier rear deck survive into the new millennium, while its broad shoulders continue to evoke memories of Officer Badass.

Normally Closed Starter Kill Relay Normally Closed Starter Kill The basic starter kill relay diagram shown below, breaks continuity of the wire from the ignition switch to the starter motor or in some cases i. This is the most commonly used application for disabling the starter. Click here for another starter kill diagram. It does not rely on an alarm or keyless entry for it to work, only a simple momentary contact switch normally open to deactivate it.
Every time the ignition is turned off, continuity is broken on the starter feed wire. To disable or start , turn ignition on, then press the hidden switch, then start as normal.
VINTAGE AIR, INC SAN ANTONIO, TX Vintage Air, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of Performance Air Conditioning systems for your Streetrod, Muscle car, or Classic Car and Truck.
This is for a completely new electronic ignition system, replacing a current one or a points system , on a Chrysler Corporation vehicle. First, go down to the trusty auto parts store and tell them either: They do the exact same thing; the 4 pin simply as extra ballast integrated into it. You can use a 4 pin box with a 4 pin resistor, but you cannot use a 5 pin box with a 2 pin resistor.
Dan Stern also pointed out that you will need a standalone, late-model, spool-type coil, either GM or Mopar, or an MSD Blaster, which fits the stock can-type coil bracket. Otherwise the coil will have a short life. Pat Conners wrote that wires 2 and 3 should go where 4 and 5 are, and vice versa. We’ll check on this. Terminal positions may depend on the vintage of the actual ECU controller being used. However, I make no claim as to whether the actual ‘numbers’ are right.
The numbers on the ignition retrofit diagram are simply to provide a reference for dialogue The 4 pin box, with single ballast resistor:

TPI TBI Camaro Small Cap Distributor To Ignition Coil Wiring Harness 12″ This harness is used with single coil TBI and TPI engines and is the connection between the ignition module on the small cap HEI distributor and ignition coil. and an easy one-wire hookup. Packed with design and build features, our HEI distributor offers a whole.
Today, many musclecar enthusiasts have abandoned points and upgraded to some form of electronic ignition, and still many more would like to, with the few exceptions being those competing with point show-cars. And after all, why not convert? The factory has supplied us and ultimately, the salvage yards with a huge number of electronic ignition systems, not to mention what is available commercially. The factory HEI, which is what will be discussed, offers: Any performance-seeker can order an HEI from a number of aftermarket sources, and it will do the same thing as a properly-prepared factory unit from the salvage yard, except it will eat a hole in the owner’s wallet.
HEI’s do have a part stamped on the base, but without a number crunching book it will not directly reveal the year or anything else about the unit. In other words, on some cars, there will be 2 wires for spark juice, one is ‘hot’ in the ignition switch “crank” position, the other is ‘hot’ in the ignition switch “run” position. This was common in the pre cars, which used an inline ballast resistor with an external voltage regulator. Starting in , GM introduced another engine-compartment clean-up idea, which was the internally regulated alternator.

Scarab is now out of business. Hooker Headers still sells Scarab-style motor mounts, transmission cross-members and headers. Other companies sell more complete kits which are similar to the original Scarab. However, since the Scarab conversions were first developed, many parts have become available that make for a better and less costly conversion. Some Chevrolet items to come out in the ‘s which make for a better, easier and less costly conversion are: Hydraulic clutch release for Corvettes and Camaros and newer cars.
Regular Maintenance. Performing maintenance tasks like replacing worn spark plugs, inspecting plug wires, or even replacing an old, partially clogged fuel filter can make a huge difference in how well your engine is running.
Posted February 4, by Zip Corvette in Corvette Technical Articles The two instruments that Corvette drivers pay the most attention to are the tachometer and the speedometer. The tachometer lets you know how the engine is performing. An inaccurate reading can lead to major problems such as rods and pistons exiting out of the side of the block. Lets face it, neither of these two problems are an enjoyable experience.
The symptoms of tachometer problems include: The speedometer has similar symptoms: The needle fluctuates, sticks in one position, will not return to zero, will not register past a certain speed, reads slow or fast, the odometer does not register or it also just does not work. Our Project 77 Corvette speedometer and tachometer both needed repairs.
Since this was the case, we decided to do them both at the same time. You will not need any special tools to do the repair but you will need patience. It should take the average home restorer a weekend to complete the project. If you have to repair or replace one of the instruments, it is a good idea to make sure you will not have to do the other one.

The voltage on the coil positive must be below 18 volts. It senses current on the coil positive wire and converts it to a 12 volt signal output. To install the Tach Adapter, the coil positive wire must be identified for your application. Once the wire has been located it is recommended to check for 12 volts using a volt meter. Connect the meter and turn the ignition On.
